Objectives for the Common Essential Learnings - Note 11

Moral reasoning stems from a concern for determining what is right/wrong, good/bad, etc. From the most basic moral value of respect for persons, a moral reasoning framework can be developed to include such moral principles as: respect for the environment, maximization of freedom (e.g., freedom of speech and freedom of choice), equality, consideration of human needs and rights, and a commitment to truth. This framework can be used to develop arguments about the moral obligations involved in actions or issues of concern. See in Understanding the Common Essential Learnings (1988) for further discussion regarding moral reasoning.
