Problem Description Sheet:       Construction Site

Introduction: We see many shapes all around us. In this activity, you will construct (make) a number of shapes using different materials. We will pretend you are making these shapes to send for an art gallery show.

Problem:

  1. Using the materials listed below, construct each of the following:

      a. Square
      b. Rectangle
      c. Circle
      d. Triangle
      e. Hexagon
      f. Octagon

    g. Oval
    h. Parallelogram
    i. Pentagon
    j. Trapezoid
    k. Rhombus
    l. Cube

    m. Rectangular solid
      (prism)
    n. Pyramid
    o. Sphere
    p. Cone
    q. Cylinder

  2. The art gallery will display each object beside its name. You are afraid that the objects and their names might get mixed up. Describe each object so the people at the art gallery won’t mix them up.

  3. The art gallery will display your objects in one room that you can divide into six areas. You want to display similar objects in the same area. Write the name of each object that you would put in the areas. Explain why you would put the objects where you stated. (You don’t have to use all six areas.)
