Problem Description Sheet:       How Many Kids in Each Class?             

Introduction: Fulovclues School has one Grade 1, one Grade 2, one Grade 3, one Grade 4, and one Grade 5 classroom. Each grade has more than 15 students and less than 35 students.

Problem: Make a chart like the one shown below. Use the clues to find out how many students are in each of the grades in Fulovclues School. Write these numbers in your chart. Show all of your work.

Clues:

  • Each grade has more than 15 students and less than 35 students.

  • The Grade 1 class has 9 boys and 14 girls.
  • The Grade 2 class has twice as many boys as the Grade 1 class. It has three less girls than the Grade 1 class.
  • The Grade 3 class had 32 students at the beginning of the year. No new students have joined the class and 1/8 of the Grade 3 students moved and are no longer in the class.
  • In the Grade 4 class, 1/4 of the students are boys and 1/6 of the students live on farms.
  • In the Grade 5 class, 1/2 of the students are girls, 1/3 of the students play baseball, and 1/5 of the students wear glasses.
