Problem Description Sheet:        Show Me One-Quarter

Introduction: You and three other people wish to share a square-shaped pizza. Each person is to have an equal amount. You divide the pizza into four equal parts so each of you will have ¼ of the pizza.

Problem: Show as many ways as you can think of to divide the pizza into four equal parts. Colour the ¼ of the pizza that you get to eat. Pretend the square drawn to the right is the pizza. Make as many of these squares as you need. Use paper-folding, cutting, or drawing to show ¼ in as many ways as you can.

Materials: duplicates of the square pizza, pencil, ruler, scissors, calculator

Extra Questions: Repeat the activity showing 1/8 (the equal sharing among 8 people).

Repeat the activity showing 1/3 (the equal sharing among 3 people).
